Harvesting Words: Start with the Seeds
Sowing your writing practice: How to find time
Welcome to Harvesting Words!
For the next 4 weeks I’ll be guiding you as we plant, cultivate, and harvest—or in other words, as we write.
You may already know a bit about me (you subscribe this newsletter, after all!), but before we get started let me give you a proper introduction of who I am and why I developed this writing workshop.
I believe creativity is as essential as food.
When we create and express ourselves, our whole being comes alive. We notice more, we connect more, and we get into a positive feedback loop where creativity energizes us, we use that energy to grow, and in turn that growth inspires more creativity.
I’ve been writing for as long as I could hold a pencil. As a child, I emulated the characters from my favorite books—I carried around a composition notebook because that’s what Harriet the Spy did, and when ink stained my fingers I imagined myself as Jo March from Little Women.
I took that love of words and studied creative writing in college, graduating with a degree in English and Environmental Studies. Having discovered Community Supported Agriculture (CSAs) in college, I took a job on a diversified farm after graduation, and planted the first seeds of my farm life.
Since then, I’ve worked on farms in New Zealand, Alaska, and Vermont, and eventually started a vegetable and flower farm with my husband in 2013. Along the way I continued to write, publishing in regional and national magazines and online blogs.
Now I’m excited to help you grow your writing practice, improve your writing skills, and cultivate your creativity.
Maybe you don’t know how to start. Maybe you do start things, but never finish them. Or you’re scared your words won’t sound as good on the page as they do in your head, or that no one will like them.
Whatever your biggest challenge around writing is, I’ll guide you through a process to help you show up and cultivate a writing practice that gets the words from your heart onto the page.
Let’s start with the seeds.
